Jags agree to terms with Meier, Gilbert

The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to new contracts with defensive tackle Rob Meier and linebacker Tony Gilbert on Wednesday.

Meier, an unrestricted free agent and the top backup to Marcus Stroud and John Henderson, had 47 tackles and a career-high six sacks last season after missing most of 2004 with a broken leg.

Gilbert, a restricted free agent, was one of Jacksonville’s top special teams players. He had nine special teams tackles last season and seven tackles on defense.

Jags re-sign Brian Jones

Tight end Brian Jones signed his tender offer Wednesday, keeping him with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jones spent the last two seasons in Jacksonville after signing as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2004 out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

He played in 13 games last season and started one. The 6-foot-3, 252-pound tight end caught two passes for 49 yards and finished tied for third on the team with 10 special teams tackles.

Jags sign Williams

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed offensive tackle Mike Williams to an undisclosed contract on Tuesday.

Williams, 26, spent the first four years of his career with the Buffalo Bills. Last season, he played in nine games, starting five times. He was released on February 23.

"I am very happy to be here in Jacksonville. It’s great to know that the Jaguars wanted me as a free agent and I have found a home here. I am very familiar with the city and I have friends here," Williams said. "My goals in Jacksonville are to become the dominant offensive tackle that I know I am and in the process help this team win games."

Williams has started 47 of his 51 career games with 46 starts at right tackle. He was originally the fourth overall pick of the 2002 NFL draft by the Bills out of Texas.
